"My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever." Psalm 73:26 The vision for this blog is to be like David, who "encouraged himself in the Lord" when times are hard. We live in days when encouragement is so necessary. Encourage is from an old French word meaning literally "with heart". To encourage means to impart hope, courage, or confidence; to hearten. So the goal is that every post written on here will be for that purpose.

What you face today may be very difficult or it may even seem impossible to get through. “…The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.” Luke 18:27
A wise man once said, “Courage is fear that has said its prayers.”
“Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid…for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.” Deuteronomy 31:6

Psalm 42
"As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.
My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God!
Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God! For I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.
O my God, my soul is cast down within me: therefore will I remember thee...
Yet the Lord will command his lovingkindness in the day time, and in the night his song shall be with me, and my prayer unto the God of my life.
Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God! For I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God."

My Cup Overflows
by Sarah Reeves
(based on Psalm 23)
My Shepherd You take my hand
You guide me upon the righteous path
My Father You make me whole
So gently Your whisper calms my soul
You make me lie down in green pastures
My cup overflows
You lead me beside the quiet waters
My cup overflows, my cup overflows
Protector You cover me
In Your arms I rest in time of need
My Refuge I will not fear
You promise Your love is always near
Even when I walk through the valley of death
My cup overflows
Your rod and staff they comfort me
My cup overflows
You prepare a table before me
In the presence of my foes
Surely love and kindness will follow me, yeah
You anoint my head with the oil of gladness
My cup overflows
I will dwell in Your house forever
My cup overflows

"When the world my heart is rending
With its heaviest storm of care,
My glad thoughts to heaven ascending,
Find a refuge from despair.
Faith's bright vision shall sustain me
Till life's pilgrimage is past;
Fears may vex and troubles pain me,
I shall reach my home at last."
-Charles Spurgeon?
